for international peace day – a cry for world peace and harmony ~
Here’s a song i wanted to share – from one of my favorite Sicilian musical groups, Agricantus ~ writing songs that speak of universal oneness and bridging together world cultures through the language of music…(hence their multi-cultural sound)
Amatevi ~
(sicilian)
Chiancinu l’occhji me, p’un s’aciucari
amuri cca t’haju lassari, m’accumpagnu p’a via
chi me suspiri, u celu supra a mia
m’ajuta a chianciri ~
– Luci cu suli, ca luna
la notti s’appoja, jornu chi fui
disiu ri’ paci, scantu ri’ querra
Ciatu – Paroli –
l’aqua s’aciuca – u siccu si vagna
~ disiu ri’ paci, scantu ri’ querra ~
(english translation)
– My eyes cry, i cannot dry them
love that i must release, which remains in me
that i sigh out, the skies above,
help me to cry ~
The light of the sun and the moon,
the day that disappears into the night,
I am wishing for peace – I fear of war
Breath – Words ~
the waters dry up, becoming filled up once again
~ I am wishing for peace – I fear of war ~
What a beautiful message of peace Yannaki! ~ Also thank you for sharing your pappa’s heritage with D.E. in this soulful song ~ One of the singer’s style remind me a bit of Colombian singer Shakira ~ I have always thought about peace from childhood and thank my father for the unspoken lesson in peace ~
Bless Divine Earth and all for these moments of the heart ~
Peace and love ~ Coralina ~
Nice musica…the singing sounded almost middle eastern in parts…surprised they are Sicilian!
Thanks Coralinni for your lovely comment! – im grateful to know there are those who cherish the message of peace and harmony – special spirits such as you! ~ 🙂
Ooh! – and yes, the lead singer’s voice does kind of sound like Shakira… – Grazzi!
Ey Joh! – so happy you enjoyed the musica – Oo yes indeed! – in fact much of Sicilian culture (especially in the West) – is quite influenced by Middle East and traces its roots to the Arabic (North African) culture ~
Oh i forgot! – yes ur right Coralinni! Shakira, although from Columbia, does share that connection to the Middle East as part of her ethnic heritage and shows through her singing ~
Hola Yannaki! Sorry I didn’t respond sooner..my Mom & Dad are visiting me from out-of-town and been very busy. This is a beautiful song with a wonderful message of peace and universal oneness! I enjoyed listening to the musica..thanks for taking the time to post this. Have a blissful evening…con deseos de amor y paz en nuestro mundo y en nuestros corazones.
tu hermanita de DE, Gitana
The middle eastern influence was obvious to Johannes ~ I love the exotic sound and style that make Sicilians a distinct people! ~
I remember Yannaki sharing some of the history and yes – Sicilians are a very unique culture ~ Nice to celebrate all our special qualities within the tapestry of our global community ~
Peaceful heart and love ~ Coralina ~
