Ravi remembering George in Encinitas ~

Thanksgiving blessings to Divine Earth and All ~ Remembering our blessings ~ For me a day of thanks would not be complete without a walk through the Yogananda’s meditation gardens in my hometown of Encinitas California, a childhood blessing ~  This amazing spiritual center has attracted amazing souls from around the world ~ Here is an article to share written by Ravi Shankar who has a home in Encinitas (he is deeply connect to Paramahansa Yogananda)  as he remembers his dear friend George Harrison who also lived here for awhile ~

Encinitas, Calif. – By Ravi Shankar — I feel I have been cheated by George. Why did he have to go so soon at such a young age when I really wanted to go first?

In moments like this, it is so hard to express the feeling of emptiness and sadness within. Like a film flashing by, everything comes to my mind since I met him more than 30 years ago. His childlike quality, his shy but naughty little smile, his passion for all the music he loved and the serious quest for religion, particularly the old Vedic Hindu tradition, always amazed me as well as attracted me.

  2. WOW!!! — this is awesome and an amazing and extraordinary look into two of the most incredible and influential musicians in our modern time – “Ravi Shankar & George Harrison” – who shared a sacred spiritual bond that will forever be treasured, in Ravi’s heart –

There are those kindred spirits that somehow share such a close relationship on so many deep levels….true friendships that are such great blessings – It is evident in the article, and the video of George’s last performance….that the bond was so strong and joyful….a true disciple of Ravi’s legacy – they both had such a prominent role in introducing Indian Classical music and Indian culture in general to the West – truly beautiful! –

Thank you Coralinni for sharing this on such a special day, the day of giving thanks…for all the blessings we cherish….one of the greatest, is that of friendship…..

Here is a rare and classic look into George and Ravi’s connection….through the magic of the sitar – In this archived footage, shows a young George Harrison having his first formal sitar lessons w/ Ravi Shankar, a true honor to hold indeed! – You can just see how enthusiastic George his playing his sitar in the video and wanting to really learn how to play the instrument (which is not easy to play, I’ve tried one myself….YEOW!) — he was so into the Indian culture, even Ravi said himself, in a a way, he was more Indian than most Indians….

OOOOO!!! – speakin of George Harrison…..I just had to post it!! – Here’s an old classic post-beatles song by George straight from the good ol’ 80’s!! — this song and music video has been one of my greatest childhood highlights and memories while growing up…..I remember watching a lot of VH-1 back in the day (when it wasnt thwomped w/ reality shows) – even then I was into the music….listening to old classics that my pops listened to…..

I remember watching this music vid on VH-1….and it brought me such joy I couldnt stop laughing and dancing to the song!! — the video would always crack me up w/ the wacky things happening in it ( a dancing parrot in a cage, moving objects….a BOARHEAD mouthing the words…LOL!!) — and then of course….supposedly George doing crazy backflips and moves…HAHAHA!!! – what a riot!! – still to this day…..it makes me smile….after all these years….bringing me back to that young innocent age I was in…..my childhood years….

I didnt even know he was George Harrison in the video until years later…..I even forget the name of the song, “I Got My Mind Set On You” — LOVE IT!!!

  5. These are great Yannaki ~ Thanks for your perspective on the life of George and his friendship with Ravi .. Both changing music history and at the same time both staying so humble ~ I think it is their love for the spiritual realm that makes this possible ~

Thank you Divine Earth/Johannes/Sevara for giving us this beautiful site to send our divine love to amazing souls (you, Ravi, George) that touch our lives ~

  6. I love the bond these two brothers of music and spirit shared.

  7. Thank you Johannes/Sevaji for your blessing and reflections of Ravi and George ~

One of the most beautiful friendships ~ May the story of the divine brotherhood of Ravi and George live in the Eternal Light .. I love how George described Ravi to the audience at Ravi’s London concert – “A blessing to the world” and Ravi in turn feeling the same about George~

A note about Ravi .. He is now in his 90s and incredibly still performing ~ He performed here in Escondido (near Encinitas) just this past October~ Some friends of mine saw the concert and said his daughter brought their dog to the concert ~

For more information on Ravi and his foundation and his contact Encinitas address .. see the following link to his website ~ Ravi’s web site is full of wonderful insight into Indian music as well and also has links to his daughter’s web site, Anoushka, who is a gifted sitar performer in her own right ~
