Infinite Potential

One of the key goals of yoga is expansion of consciousness. Whatever beliefs we hold about ourselves and our place in the universe becomes our truth – a self-imposed, self-perceived reality. As you can imagine, this can be a good thing or it can be a very detrimental thing if the mind moves towards a negative state.

But let’s just stay on the bright side of what our reality can be if the yogic approach to life and living is practiced. Real yoga – which includes myriad meditations, postures, and breathing techniques that enhance brain function, as well as formulae that offer guidance towards living a karma-free, dharmmic life, such as the yamas and niyamas – is a science to bring each human to achieve infinite potential.

As a finite human we have limitations physically. However, the physical is not the only reality of existence! We are each multi-dimensional beings with both material and immaterial makeup. The material aspect of who we are follows all natural laws, including gravity and all the conditions that the elements of the earth are subject to, such as decay. The immaterial aspect of who we are is beyond these laws. This includes the ability to transcend time and space, to transport the consciousness vast distances, to know the future, to read others thoughts, and so forth. It is when we tap into the immaterial that our true potential can be realized.

This requires and shift in our understanding of what existence means to us on a personal level. If it means only the accumulations of material wealth, struggling to pay your monthly bills, the attainment of power and prestige, and obeying the laws of your country then life can be at best satisfactory when these are attained or miserable when they are lost or never realized. The true beauty of life is discovered when the full scope of living engages all our dimensions.

A painter seeks to explore all the colors available; likewise life is not mono-chromatic. A musician seeks to explore the harmonizing of notes and tempos; likewise life is a constantly changing dance. A life fully lived harmonizes, dances, flows, and rejoices with not just the earthly realm but with all the realms available to us only when we drop the limiting attachments to worldly desires – not that the fruits of this earth are not to be enjoyed, but simply that we do not become controlled by them.

As attachments are dropped, little by little, one’s world view expands more and more. For example, once the attachment to a specific religion is dropped one is free to see the beauty in other religions rather than have a closed mind to other faiths. Thus, instead of seeing other religions as false, or even evil, one’s mind opens to the glimpses of truths that exists within differing scripture. This also leads to embracing the commonalities amongst all beings, rather than focusing on differences.

With ever-expanding consciousness new possibilities continually unfold, opening up the seeker to greater and greater potentialities until the whole universe is engulfed and super-consciousness is achieved. The universe holds unlimited possibilities, unlimited potentiality, and unlimited creativity. A mind that has learned to flow with the cosmic flow taps into this infinite potential.

We are only limited by the false notion of limitations. As soon as we conquer the concept of being limited we suddenly make ourselves available to receive the limitless grace, beauty, and creativity that awaits each of us. Today is a good day to start de-constructing any barriers that you have allowed to come between you and the universe. Today is a good day to manifest a sacred life and bring joy and peace unto this world. Meditate on your vastness and watch how each day you grow, in love, in compassion, in understanding, in joy, and in abundance. These blessings are the birthright to all who seek.
