As you Greek watchers know – a critical vote is taking place in Greece this weekend ~ Depending on the outcome – Greece could possibly leave the euro and return to the drachma – This has the 17 united european nations on watch of this significant election that reaches world wide ~
WOW! – hriste ke panayia!!! απίστευτος!! (i dont believe it!)
Efharisto (thanks) Coralinni for sharing w/ us this important piece of news that the world has been watching very closely…..as it was a really tough decision to make, whether Greece should leave the euro and go back to its old native currency, the drachma…which would have sent waves of crippling financial turmoil through the monetary system of the European Union, and as a consequence….could have also affected the U.S. and the entire global economy….
The vote has been done: and the new democratic conservative party, led by Antonis Samaras, won the vote….but it was very close….as a large portion of Greeks supported the return of the drachma
So for now, the imminent fears of a “euro-exit” has been averted…however….Greece is still in trouble….(quoting a song by well-known Greek vocalist, George Dalaras, “Mi Milas, Mi Yelas, Kindinevi I Ellas” —- Dont Speak, Dont Smile, Greece is in Danger”)
Many are out of work….and with a govt. that is still in need of dire help…..we will have to wait and see what lies in the future for Greece….”Ellada” – μια πατριδα που χρειάζεται βοήθειας! (a country that needs help!)
Here’s an article about the vote:

All the best to the Greek people and the European Union to work out a solution ~ Thanks Yannaki for the update – Interesting to see how we are all connected in a global community ~ like a family!
Yes we are indeed!! – just shows how, as u say Coralinni, we are all connected…..like a global community….all the more important for us to help each other in a tumultuous period….
Oh by the way, here’s the song i was sharing about earlier….sung by G. Dalaras…quite a poignant one w/ the words…..describing ….the beauty of the land….and of Greece being endangered, that one is willing to commit to sacrificing himself ….to rewrite history, or die trying….

I know in my heart, despite the hardships going on….I know the Greeks (I Ellines imaste!) are a strong and tough people….Even though it’s a land plagued with poverty, the Greek culture is rich and everlasting, over 2,000 years of history…the arts, philosophy….prejudice and discrimination (the story of the “Rebetes”), are fighters to the end….may the land of my ancient ancestors thrive once more….like the eagle soaring above in the sky….as an old ancient Greek saying from Spartan tradition goes, “I tan I Epi Tas” —
ελευθερία ή θάνατος – I Ellas dhen tha petheni!! (Greece will never die) – ZITO I ELLADA TO FOS!

a tribute to an ancient land….in pictures, and in music….”Anemos” – stin kardia mou…. (The Winds)
