Gentle & non harmful solutions to a backyard wildlife problem ~

Something I found interesting and amusing to share – from my backyard ~

I can see the community pool from my balcony .. and for a time, me and the residences who are allowed to use the pool had a duck problem~

There were two very sweet ducks who adopted the pool as their very own ..(one male mallard with green head and one female with brown spots) .and every day they would fly to the pool side in the early evening hours and sit and take a swim~

The problem is they would also poop on the side of the pool as well as in the water on their daily visits!

So, it worried me when I saw someone taking pictures of the messes they left..and knew they were planning to find ways to get rid of the sweet little visitors from the wild ~

I had visions of the worst case scenario on what they would do to the ducks ~

But to my relief saw the first step my h.o.a. came up with was placing a large bird of prey statue (a Hawk) next to the pool to scare the ducks away ~

I think it worked for the female duck but the male mallard kept coming back and sat staring at the Hawk and pooping at the same time – lol~

The good ending to this story is they eventually placed two large Owl statues at either end of the pool and the ducks were never seen since- I’m sure they are happy in the nature preserve ponds that are across the street ~ I think a wonderful solution that respected the creatures of nature was found !
