Forgiveness ~

Over the years I have found, through observing the lives of family and friends, many have encounter very painful experiences from loved ones~ Many have found it hard to “forgive” and move forward with the past bond that was once one of beauty and joy ~ Sevaji has spoken of the aspect of forgiveness in meditations ~

One personal story to share, if I may, is the relationship I have with my older brother (10 years older) ~ Without going into personal details of the painful experiences, I can say that for the most part they were always just misunderstandings and once the truth surfaced the conflict was resolved ~

But there is one very significant experience between me and my brother that has and will always carry me through any negative paths between us~ It was something that happened when I was only 5 or 6 years old .. My family was invited to a friend’s house who had a lovely backyard swimming pool ~ I remember my brother and I enjoying the warm waters of the pool .. since I did not know how to swim I floated in the pool with an inflated tube around my waist ..but somehow I slipped through the tube and sank to the bottom of the pool ~ It was strange but I can remember that I did not panic nor did I try to swim ..I just sat on the bottom of the pool peacefully and did not once inhale any water~ My brother was the only one that saw what happened and he dove into the water and rescued me ~ So, now no matter what happens between the two of us ..I think of that day and find it is my way of “forgiving” and getting through any conflicts that may arise ~

Perhaps there are people in one’s past that have blessed us in some ways .. and in remembering those blessings may be a way to healing and forgiveness ~ Peace and Love ~ Coralina ~

  1. Thank you for sharing this personal story, Coralina. I think one lesson to be understood as that each of us at different times can do things we may regret but we are also capable of performing acts of heroism. When you forgive your brother you are choosing to see the hero within him.

  2. Thank you so much Sevaji for sharing light on “forgiveness” ~ It was your light that led me to recall and realize the powerful role of forgiveness in my life ~ Metta!
