Random acts of kindness ~

An old man walking along a beach at dawn noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea.  Catching up with the youth he asked what he was doing.

“The starfish will die if they are still on the beach when the sun roasts them with its mid-morning heat”, came the answer.

“But the beach goes on for miles, and there are millions of starfish”,  countered the old man. “How can your effort make any difference?”

The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and threw it safely in the waves.

“It makes a difference to this one”, he said.

  1. Ooo i like this one!! — really, a great lesson in kindness…that even the smallest little things we do…whether we know it or not – makes a difference!! ~ nice one Coralinni!!! :)))

try to practice at least one random act of kindness each day!! 😉

  2. Yannaki ~ Have a safe and joyful drive today!

  3. Yeah, I like that story too. It makes an enormous difference to the starfish. All things being equal, and the universe being void of meaning except for what we manage to make it mean in our heads, I’d still like to opt for doing good stuff, throw back as many starfish as possible. It would be a better world, if we had all really learned as kids to work and play well with others.

  4. Oh Howard, I can picture all us Divine Earthers on that beach – the starfish flinging would be amazing! And how very true about the kids – We are born carefree and without judgment .. and at some point the influence of our world pull the children apart ~ May the world find a way to reconnect to that time of freedom and childhood joy ~ Namaste!

  5. Great comments, everyone! 🙂 I Loved this story, too! It has been quite uplifting for me today! Sometimes I think the molehills of the world conspire together to present a mountain of challenge to us. But, if we can keep a one starfish at a time mentality about it, the molehills cannot disillusion us and we can make a difference in the world. 🙂
