QUESTION: When I told you I was learning pranayama, you said to let you know when I discovered the secrets of the universe. I laughed at that thought you were joking, and said I’d never be privy to that info. Today, I read this from the Yoga Sutras: “Pranayama removes the veil covering the light of knowledge and heralds the dawn of wisdom.” I take that to mean that in yoga, pranayama confirms that we have already arrived, are already home, that we should just wake up from the dream that this is not so. Thoughts, my guru?🙏
ANSWER: How to sum this up in a few sentences? Impossible! Silence explains it better. Just as with an instrument, the more you practice the more intimately you know the subtleties of the instrument and music itself over time. Things slowly become revealed. The flow of notes begin to make sense. The arrangements of chords make sense. The structure of a masterpiece begins to make sense. Suddenly there’s an epiphany and musical creations explode from the consciousness. The same occurs with the breath. Become intimate with the breath. Learn its’ nuances, subtleties, and the mysteries contained within the prana begin to reveal themselves until you merge with the divine consciousness. Even so, there are mysteries upon mysteries. But the mystery of the divine self is the most important. You may know the future, have access to the Akashic records, control the weather, read minds, but to know the self is the greatest mystery.
