Bill Maher really said it like it is, with humor, of course. According to healingdaily.com >
“This emphasis on drugs is one of the main reasons why spending for prescription drugs is the fastest-growing category of health care expenditures.
It is also one of the major factors contributing to the fact that doctors are a major leading cause of death in the United States, due to the fact that they have an over reliance on using drugs as ‘patch-up’ solutions, rather than seeking the cause of the problem.
In 1998 an extensive study published in the reputable Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) showed that 106,000 people die each year in American hospitals from medication side effects (4).
Why has this epidemic of side effects gone unrecognized? Deaths from medication reactions rarely look any different from natural deaths. There’s no visible wreckage to videotape, no crash sites to fascinate and horrify TV viewers.”
A very good vid w/ some humor provided by funnyman Bill Maher ~ THnx for sharin’ Joh! ~
I too am well aware of the over-reliance on prescription meds for almost every health complaint there is – after my numerous visits and experiences with doctors over the course of serveral months – i too have noticed this trend to want to patch up everything with medications when other more effective treatments that work for the individual are (AND I KNOW THEY ARE!) available ~
Just like w/ antidepressants – docs would rather play trial-and-error to figure out which type of antidepressant would work on someone and risk having pretty bad reactions than finding a solution that is long-lasting, gets to the source and unique to the individual – minimizing the risks and suffering ~ ive tried voicing my concerns about this practice with no results ~ (those docs are pretty thick-headed man!)
While i don’t turn down traditional medicine — in fact, complete abandoment of it in this modern age is unrealistic – as there are many advancments in the field ~ and certain medications and treatments do indeed bring relief and aid in recovery (i take ibuprofen for aches and pains from time to time, if it’s real bad) — but the danger lies in relying on these only ~ there is a huge business in pharma and one must be cautious in getting mislead into taking something that is not really necessary ~
