If I may ~ sharing the wisdom of Johannes ~ Sevaji ~ Evening Prayer
At night while we sleep our body and mind has the opportunity to recharge. But sometimes we become so overwhelmed with life that when we finally do lay our heads down it seems impossible to shut off all the worries and we end up having a restless night’s sleep and sometimes insomnia.
It is very beneficial to write down all the things that may be bothering us and all to-dos that we have for the following day or week. Once we have written them down we are assured that we won’t forget about them, but that we will attend to them at the appropriate time – not while we should be resting.
All organs have different times that they function more and other times that they function less, because the body has its own time clock called the circadian rhythm. Sleep helps to regulate the body’s clock.
When we were more primitive, long before the invention of the first light bulb, we had to rely on the sun as the main source of light. To take advantage of the limited hours of sunlight we had to arise early, and so going to bed early was necessary. Thus we were more in harmony with nature, with the rising and setting sun, and the lunar phases. This is how our physical form over hundreds of thousands of years evolved and adapted to the rhythm of the universe.
To get the optimal results from our sleep it is best to go to bed by around 9 pm when melatonin production begins to secrete in the brain through the pineal gland. Melatonin helps regulate other hormones and maintain the body’s circadian rhythm. If you don’t get adequate sleep you won’t get adequate amounts of this hormone to help balance the body.
To set your mind to be ready for sleep, try this Evening Prayer so you can get the best sleep possible. Say it aloud or in silence, but it is important to feel each sentence and each word in your heart. Then surrender all your worries, cares and fears to the universe – or God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Waheguru, Jehova, Jah, etc. The more you can sincerely surrender the more the universe will nurture you.
Evening Prayer
O my mind, be silent that I may hear the celestial sounds
O my mind, be silent that I may be received by the angels
I ask you, O Mind, to put aside your worries
That the loving universe may take care of them
I ask you, O Mind, to put aside your chatter
That the loving universe may speak to me
I surrender all my problems
I surrender all my worries
I surrender all my cares
I surrender all my fears
I put my unwavering trust in the universe
I put my unwavering faith in the universe
That the loving universe will nurture me and all beings
That the loving universe will protect me and all beings
That the loving universe will heal me and all beings
That the loving universe will guide me and all beings
By surrendering, all good things shall come
By surrendering, all healing shall come
By surrendering, all solutions shall come
By surrendering, all sustenance shall come
As I lay my head to sleep I open my heart to receive
As I lay my head to sleep I open my mind to receive
As I lay my head to sleep I open my body to receive
As I lay my head to sleep I open my spirit to receive
All gifts
All blessings
All healings
All wisdom
All knowledge
All protection
All calmness
All serenity
All tranquility
All truth
All guidance
All beauty
May my path be made clear to me
May my truth be shown to me
May my destiny be revealed to me
May my divinity be awakened in me
I pray for my family, my friends, my teachers,
fellow seekers, the young, the old,
the sick and the healthy,
the poor and the rich,
the cruel and the kind,
All who walk the earth and those that shall walk the earth one day,
All creatures of the land, air and sea, and the earth herself
And all celestial beings, angels and Bodhisattvas
That the thousands of blessings I have received
May I return one thousand more to you
May all be blessed as I have been blessed
May all exist in accord with their highest destiny
May all know peace
May all know love
