A little video I filmed last weekend to share ~ An amazing day at the Long Beach California Arena – The words and joyful spirit of the Dalai Lama will remain with me always ~ His message was deep and profound regarding the human condition .. touching on the very causes of suffering and unhappiness in the world ~ But equally touching was his Holiness playful sense of humor! ~ He is coming next to Canada ~
One of many memorable moments was his opening words to the audience ~ (Actor Richard Gere was there and introduced the Dalai Lama) I will paraphrase what the Dalai Lama’s opening words were .. in essence the Dalai Lama spoke of how some people perceive him ~ Some say he is the reincarnation of Buddha ~ To that he says – Nonsense! (he is laughing while he is speaking) Some say he is like God – again he says – Nonsense! Some say he is all-knowing .. and he says – I don’t know everything and I don’t have all the answers …On the other hand some say I am evil – also not true ~ I am only another human being just like you are human beings ~
The Dalai Lama speaks in a free flowing mind consciousness and makes you feel like he is talking to you in your living room ~ He tells funny monk and family stories between the more serious and deep topics. and spoke for several hours ~ The little video I filmed was after the event outside of the arena ~ An uplifting experience and blessing ~
It is the government and not the people of China – One of the many insightful comments the Dalai Lama made, at the Long Beach event I attended, were his words regarding China’s relationship with Tibet ~ He points out the importance of knowing many of the people of China have great understanding of the abuse taken place in Tibet ..but abuse not as the result of the Chinese people but a result of the government of China ~
Interesting that the Dalai Lama is not for a completely separate Tibetan nation as some people think – but hopes for China reform in which the Chinese government can find ways to end the abuse against the Tibet and its people~
Here is a recent interview in which the Dalai Lama says the following: “Number of Chinese also now showing their genuine, sort of this sense of solidarity with us,” explained The Dalai Lama. “And the world, every – many parts of the world, at least who know something about Tibet, they watch its current situation, I think very, very sort of sympathetic, sort of – they have very much concern.”

Wow! – so cool…..first off, Wanted to say how awesome it was that you got the chance to see the dalai lama in person at the convention cener Coralinni! – that in itself is an amazing almost “once-in-lifetime”event…..So happy that you got to listen to him speak his words on compassion, the value of humanity and the importance of knowing, that we are all the same…human beings….
I also saw the vid (lovely flags and banners as well!) — and also reflected on the Dalai Lama’s words on his thoughts about China and the future of Tibet ~ finding ways to end the human rights abuse going on……
Thank u for sharing Coralinni! – may this wonderful experience enlighten your heart….!! – Om…..Yaki ~
P.S. In addition, I would also like to share….that he Dalai Lama’s words about Tibet….in a sense has made me reflect upon a bit of a similar thing that’s been going on in my paternal ancestral land, the island of Sicily (Sicilia) — which not too many people know about, and should be informed of the political and cultural / ethnic uprising that’s been going on there in recent months (which in fact, has been going on in waves for many years already….) — the ever-growing oppression against the Italian state — that Sicilians have been protesting about ~
I will follow-up more on this later w/ some article and vid — It’s an issue i feel, should not be ignored as well!
Thank you Yannaki ~ The Dalai Lama is a man of joy and I was moved by his presence and blessing ~ At the same time he is also a man of deep compassion .. sadden by the news of yet another Tibetan monk who sacrificed his life by fire in order to bring attention to the Tibetan plight ~ The Dalai Lama, in exile from Tibet, has been a tremendous force of peace and human rights for Tibet and the world ~
I know the human rights situation in Sicily is very close to home for you, Yannaki, through your pops ~ I have heard of the unrest building up between Sicilians and the mainland of Italy ~ I hope for peaceful progress in finding ways to end divisions while still appreciating the beauty of each culture as amazing and unique ~
