"What is eternity to you and how do you know there is an eternity?"
This is a fun first question for our new series...
Eternity to me is simply the continuation of the eternal now. The mind creates the illusion of linear time in a way to measure the probability of future, and for the recollection of past. But eternity can only exist here and now, for how can we qualitatively say there will be a future let alone eternity and who would be around to accurately record it to prove its existence? In the physical dimension, future is only a hypothesis and past can only exist as a memory. But on the other hand, how can we say that time will NOT continue forward in a linear way? For it is only logical that if we could somehow stop time, something would have to exist after it. It's sort of like saying the vastness of the universe is finite, however if one were to reach the end of the universe there would have to be something beyond it, which can only mean there is no limit. As noted, if the universe is therefore infinite, then "time" or the unfolding of events in a sequential manner must be infinite. This is not to say that the measurement of time is precise and governed by strict laws as scientists have shown that "time" can bend, via various cosmic influence of which gravity is one. Because matter consists of constantly moving molecules, energy cannot cease to exist. Therefore, in an infinite universe where energy has been established there must be a constant state of motion as energy cannot be motionless. Motion dictates that a thing (a molecule, atom, proton, etc) must follow a process of traveling a distance from occupying one space to occupying another. Again, because energy cannot be destroyed, it follows that motion must continue ad infinitum, and therefore eternity, as related to time must also continue ad infinitum. Energy, the universe, and eternity are all limitless.

eternity.......
Ok... whew... this is a big first question! How I would describe Eternity.
My perception of eternity in words instead of colour... hmm ok, here goes!
Words although I love them, seemingly diminish the essence of life and in effort to describe with the limitations of form, the mind, 5 senses, eternity might be explained as a never ending experience of time, in which case eternity is as far as the seer can imagine, based on the evolution of the form and of contributing collective consciousness.
But I know that Eternity is beyond that, beyond what we know for sure, beyond the space the mind does not conceive and the body does not perform and beyond all limits the form surrenders and is thus transformed.
In this state Eternity may be glanced as a flash where time dissolves into the now of unlimited potential. In this state a new sense is born, awareness that the essence of my being is both atmosphere (presence) and seer (body).
As both atmosphere and seer exist at the same time, separate yet share one consciousness, all life is seen of one life and in all forms, weather tree or bird, ocean or wind, sun, moon or stars, we are all one eternal consciousness.

A sense of promise in eternity
To me, eternity is the feeling that my spirit and energy have always and will always exist somewhere unfettered by time and space. The body and reality my energy dwells in now is only one very tiny reality in a multitude of simultaneous and infinite possibilities. I feel a great sense of comfort in this consciousness. With this understanding comes a joy and levity filled with hope. This hope in the promise of eternity frees us from the shackles of the temporal world where we are anxious and guilty of worrying that we will never fulfill our own expectations in the fixed time that we have before death. We are immune to the neuroses of What if? I feel that my faith in eternity is making it possible for me as I learn to love each moment in it's own right without expectations or fear of reproach. Eternity is hope.
divine infinite
You know how deeply I believe in eternity dear Sevara ~ so this is wonderful that you share your inner perspective and conciousness on this question of the infinite ~
As in a circle ... it is endless ~ And how interesting that you bring out the aspect of forward motion of energy and that even in a linear way .. can be endless ~ So many people think in terms of everything having a beginning and an end ~
Thank you for your wisdom and beauty in thought as alway dear Seva ~
~ Coralina eternally ~
Life is the fire that burns and the sun that gives light ~ Life is the wind and the rain and the thunder in the sky. Life is matter and is earth, what is and what is not, and what beyond is in Eternity ~
Seneca
We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. And when you have an intense contact of love with nature or another human being, like a spark, then you understand that there is no time and that everything is eternal ~
I existed from all eternity and, behold, I am here; and I shall exist till the end of time,
for my being has no end ~

My Answer
Wow Severa, indeed a fun and very thought provoking question! Eternity to me means a timeless existence. Eternity has no beginning and no end. I believe everything is energy (I call it God energy). Call it cosmic energy, divine energy, universal energy, regardless of ones' preference; it is energy, which has no beginning and no end. Energy cannot die or sieze to exist. Since everything is energy, everything can change forms, but the energy continues to exist. For example: a plant may die, the energy does not die, it changes the form of energy in the plant. The plant is actually still alive in a different form of energy. A cloud energy can change to rain energy to moisture energy in the ground to condensation energy and reform new cloud energy. A tree can die, the energy does not die; it changes the form of energy of the tree, for example to petrified wood; which is still energy. Even when a person dies, the energy changes forms, the physical remains turn to dust energy, the soul energy continues (one just has to have experienced energy of a souls' presence to recognize the soul energy continues to exist). Does this prove anything? I do not have the answer, but unless proven otherwise, this is what I know for now. LOL, the awesome wonder of it all is an eternal journey.
eternity
Wow! Amazing thoughts you have Sevara, Almost as vast as the universe!Eternity is too vast to comprehend in the very finite human state, this I agree with. You could however, think that even if a bird were to take a tiny grain of sand from the seashore and fly to futherest star in the universe and then come back again over and over until every grain was transported from every shore, eternity would just be beginning.... But eternity has no beginning and has no end....Thats a long ,long time....
eternal purpose
In the eternal state we will all inevitally be some day. There must be a purpose for this eternal " time" if you will, that equals the immensity of the universe. If eternity is indeed a continuation of the eternal now, then perhaps we will be learning what love is and how to treat our fellow man with respect .Surely a purpose as great as eternity would exclude evil. Therefore we would be free from this influence and truely be able to love as we always wanted from our hearts. To love eternally...
