Growing in popularity around my community are yoga studios that offer a combination of sauna and yoga ~ They conduct a complete yoga workout in special sauna rooms ~ The sauna yoga rooms reach temperatures of 98.6 degrees F - body temperature at the Synergy Yoga Center which is located near the Yogananda's Self Realization temple ~ The sessions last one and a half hours so the body has time to thoroughly cleanse itself of toxins and at the same time benefit from a complete yoga exercise workout ~
Another popular local yoga site for sauna yoga is Yoga Tropics - There the rooms reach temperatures of 105 degrees ~ These classes are not for beginners for there are plenty of other yoga classes around town more suited to beginner needs ...for passing out is not the path toward achieving enlightenment and spiritual fulfillment!
These sauna yoga classes leave you with a feeling of cleansing and renewal ...an outlet for maintaining and improving physical, emotional and spiritual wellness ~ Perhaps this is a technique you have experienced or have available in your communities!

2. Sauna Yoga - great for mind, body & soul ~
Awesome Coralinni!! - a great bloggie u share w/ Divine Earth! --- da beneficial effects of "Sauna Yoga" - great idea!!
Dat right!! -- it's proven dat da generation of sweat cleans out our bodies from da harmful toxins dat can accumulate through da day --- as well as cleanse da spirit as da mind goes deeper into those blissful states of consciousness n' becomes still --- a great way to improve concentration n' focusin' on bein' present at all times ~ YEA! YEA!
OOO! - speakin' of which -- there's another related form of yoga dat i just thought's of -- it's called "Bikram Yoga" --- invented by Indian Yoga guru "Bikram Choudhury" -- which also focuses on Yoga done at temps at 105-108 degrees F. w/ a humidity of about 40% or so for 90 mins ~ w/ an emphasis on Asana postures (about 26 in total) ~
And dat right Coralinni! -- about passin' out!! -- As da great Buddha discovered -- bein' an ascetic (individuals to suffer da extremes - self-starvation, extreme cold or heat...etc...) does not bring one closer to the Ultimate Reality - closer to the Infinite, one w/ the universe - One finds the Enlightenment somewhere in between (The Middle Way) ~ So make sure u don't hold yer breath while meditatin'!! -- allow to breathe freely n' naturally.........and to disappear deep into existence ~ ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........
~ Peace, Love, Joy ~
3. cleansing out toxins
Interesting Yannaki about Bikram Yoga ~ One of the guides at the Synergy Yoga center mentioned that their yoga looks like Bikram Yoga but it is not ~ I think one of the differences is that Bikram Yoga is more intense while Synergy offers a mild version with less intense heat ~
Yes - it is important to breathe ...be very focused on what your body is feeling for it is meant to be a rewarding experience - cleansing the mind, spirt and body!
4. related story ~
Here is a related news story that has made headlines in the last few days ... An unexplained tragedy took place at a spiritual retreat in Arizona while using the sauna or sweat lodge for cleansing the body of toxins ~
From my hometown's neighbor, Carlsbad California, the well known self-help author James Arthur Ray is currently being investigated for two deaths that occured at the sweat lodge at the Arizona retreat ~
Reported by: Antonio Castelan Last Update: 10/11/09
CARLSBAD - Arizona sheriff deputies are looking into a well-known Carlsbad-based self-help motivational guru and spiritual leader after two people died in a sweat lodge. Investigators say James Arthur Ray held the retreat in Sedona. Now they are trying to figure out how these deaths came about. James Arthur Ray is a famous motivational speaker.
The Carlsbad resident has appeared on "Oprah", "Larry King," "The Today Show", and on various cable news networks. He's also an author of "The Secret."
On Friday two people died at his retreat titled, "Spiritual Warrior." Investigators say it was held at a Sedona sweat lodge. About 64 people were huddled up in the lodge that was described as being about 4 1/2 feet tall at its highest point. It is being investigated as a death investigation.
Ray's representatives would not comment about the deaths, but in a statement Howard Bragman said, "We express our deepest condolences to those who lost family and friends."
Authorities haven't determined the cause of the deaths and illnesses, but ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident happened at the Angel Valley Retreat Center just outside scenic Sedona. Waugh said the 64 people who were in the crude sweat lodge had fasted for 36 hours, then ate a breakfast buffet on Thursday morning. After various seminars on Thursday, they entered the sweat lodge at about 3 p.m.
End of quote ~
I share this news story only as awareness that the method of sauna or as some call it hot yoga can vary greatly in intensity ~ It is not for beginners and I would only recommend it in its milder forms as the ones which are available here locally around town ~ May we continue to experience the total rewarding spiritual methods of cleansing the body, spirit and mind ~ We just need to be wise in our choices of paths ~ Blessings to all ~
5. Senseless tragedy
This is indeed a tragedy. I was never fond of The Secret nor the "gurus" presented. As I said before they were all "spiritual salesmen" - false gurus. People see these wealthy, articulate, and charismatic speakers and become seduced by greed rather than by sincere spiritual seeking. Ray's motto is "create harmonic wealth in all areas of your life" - a promise that his unique teachings will lead you to a life of abundance. Because he is not a true teacher he could not see the flow of karma within his actions and he could not recognize his student's limitations. A true master is awareness and is attuned to each student/disciple and knows his or her capacity and limitations. This is a karmic consequence that he will have to bear for the rest of his life and beyond.
6. Ray - today's news update ~
Dear Sevara .. Here is today's follow-up news story on the case of false guru, James Arthur Ray ~ He gives the true spiritual community a bad image and I echo your thoughts about his very unspiritual motives ~ Three lives ended needlessly .. so tragic.. Here is the article ~ Blessings and love ~ Coralina ~
James Arthur Ray, leader of fatal US sweat lodge ceremony, arrested on 3 manslaughter counts
By Mike Fleeman - February 03, 2010
Self-help guru James Arthur Ray was arrested Wednesday in Arizona on manslaughter charges in the deaths of three people during a sweat lodge ceremony.
Ray was being held on $5 million bond at a sheriff's station in Prescott awaiting transfer to the Camp Verde Detention Center, according to a statement by Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh.
"Sheriff Waugh would like to thank the victim’s families for their patience while the Sheriff’s Office completed a thorough and comprehensive investigation," the statement says. "With the arrest of James Ray, Sheriff Waugh hopes the families of the three victims will now have some measure of closure to this tragedy."
If convicted, he faces a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 12½ years on each count.
7. It ain't no secret no more
Thanks for the update. Hmmm...so it seems that following the principals of "the Secret" - the "Law of Attraction" - got Mr. Ray to where he is today. The bubble has burst. As I have always stated I do not endorse The Secret, nor its money-hungry gurus, and this is a prime example of why. The way the interpret or utilize the principal is incorrect. NEVER ever put the creation wealth above your own spiritual discipline. There needs to be a foundation of spiritual consciousness BEFORE one dabbles in having their 3 wishes granted.
Obviously his surface intentions were not to hurt anyone, but he was not guided by the right motives so inevitably tragedies are bound to happen. I do not wish for him to go to jail, but I hope that this serves as a wake-up call for other such idiots to stick to playing the stock market and stop playing guru with other people's lives.
8. James Ray's wake-up call ~
Out of this tragedy and the death of three trusting seekers of light .. may there at least be a lesson learned ~ Thank you so much Divine Earth/Sevara/Johannes for giving hope that this may serve as a wake-up call for all the false gurus that endanger our lives ~
Here is a picture of one of the three victims that died as a result of James Arthur Ray's sweat lodge ceremony ~ Kirby Brown was a healthy hiker and surfer .. Her life ended too soon and it was reported that Ray continued his spiritual schedule without blinking an eye after her death and the other deaths ...It seems only the public outcry alerted him to suspend his money-driven schedule ~ May the victims RIP ~ Also, may these false gurus stop tarnishing the true spiritual community and the meaningful divine path of the gentle seekers of light ~ Peace, abundant love and joy ~ Coralina ~
