Feng Shui
I have received comments from friends and visitors to my home and work place - how my space looks very influenced by the concepts of Feng Shui ~
In ancient times as well as today, feng shui was known as "Kan-Yu" which means 'The Law of Heaven and Earth. Today's Feng Shui schools teach that it is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. Feng shui literally translates as "wind-water."
I have fragrant candles and spiritual items and art ~ flowers ~ Also, natural elements which display the beauty of different types of wood and stones/quartz and metal/silver ~
Recently I have added the element of water into my home ~
Flowing water is one of the most powerful forces of nature yet one of the most soothing. Its movements are mesmerizing and its sounds are tranquil. A simple way of bringing this beauty and serenity to your own home is a table fountain ~ Among my favorites are the natural rock waterfall fountains~
The sounds of flowing water indoors is relaxing and relives stress ~ Also, they can improve air quality ~ You are also breathing a higher quality of air because of the natural humidifying effect that an indoor fountain combined with the splashing water produces negative ions that remove pollutants and allergens from the air. Also studies have found these negative ions (just like standing by the waves of an ocean shore) can bring positive energy and give one an uplifting sensation ~
Look for the fountains that need no external water source ~ Most table fountains have a recirculating pump that draws the water from the base of the fountain. All that is needed is to add a little water from time to time to replace what is lost through normal evaporation ~
So enjoy incorporating the art of Feng Shui into your homes with the sounds of nature ~
Also, I found this article by Ann Kucera of related interest to share ~
Along with making sure the bottle contains pure essential oil, use your intuition and your sense of what smells good to choose your mister. You can also make them yourself. I created the misters with charged water. This water is infused with the vibration of special words and it adds that vibration to the space that the mister is used. The last ingredient, pure essential oil, adds a refreshing smell as well as special vibrations that come from the essential oils.
I used filtered water, a glass bowl, small polished rocks with the words: love, power, miracle, freedom, passion, wisdom, create and health, a blend of essential oils that include Lavender, sweet orange, ylang ylang, chamomile and patchouli and a mister bottle with a fine spray nozzle.
I arranged the rocks in the bottom of the glass bowl and then poured in the filtered water.
I let the bowl of water sit with the rocks in the window, next to a sun chime for 24 hours. The water is then infused with the vibration of the words, the sun, the stars, the moon and the chime."

quartz crystal and feng shui ~
In the art of Feng Shui - it is suggested to place quartz crystal in the rooms throughout one's house ~
Quartz crystal is a very powerful energy activator. The energy of the quartz crystal can be amplified by a person's thoughts and feelings. Placing a crystal in the corner of a room will encourage the universal life force to flow through the room freely. If the energy does not flow freely in a room it can affect health and thoughts ~
Clear quartz crystals have been used for centuries in healing. Egyptians used them in pyramids to attract the power contained in light. Their triangular shapes held mystical appeal. American Indians have long revered the crystal as a sacred symbol of light. In the Tibetan culture, crystals are considered sacred objects that are empowered with the elements ~
So True
There is not one room in my home that does not have a crystal or crystals in it. I have a huge crystal garden I call it. It is loaded with all types of crystals and semi precious gems. I used to sleep with it behind me but the energy kept me awake so I moved it to another part of the house. Whew, it puts off lots of energy!
I also have two crystals that I sometimes use in meditaion. One in each hand. Very powerful tool.
I also have them buried outside where I have two small vortexes. They really amped up the energy there. Crystals are a gift from Gaia and a precious gift at that.

and all things natural. Water, crystals, rocks, plants and lots of sunshine. All abide here in happy harmony.
I have a water fountain, crystals in every room, plants and the bamboo plants too. Use essential oils for fragrance, My crystals are charged with the intent of purifying my space of harmful toxins etc. I also drink charged water.
Thanks for the share Coralina!
Sounds lovely
Thanks Lightdancer for sharing your description of your indoor environment which embraces the essence of the outdoors ~ Oh and bamboo plants are wonderful for not only do they add a touch of the mystic east but also they can grow almost anywhere - even where they get no sunlight but still thrive and keep their rich color ~
Negative Ions - Feelin' Good!!
OOOOOO!! :D :D
- very interestin' postie Coralinni's!!! -- Da ancient Healin' Interior Designin' Art of - "Feng Shui" ~
DAT RIGHT! - a concept so ancient, yet so modern n' beneficial in today's hectic society -- where we need some peace n' serenity incorporated into our bizzy lifestyle -- "Feng Shui" applies da healin' elements of nature into our homes n' other places to balance energies n' bring an upliftin' atmosphere which promotes a sens of well-bein' ~ YEPZ!!!
And like Coralinni sayz, water is a common universal element which represents purity n' tranquility - cleansin' our bodies, and our souls -- Even da gentle sounds of a little water fountain is soooo soothin' to da mind, body n' spirit --- (Me got's a few water table fountains in our home -- da main one sharin' its space in our "sacred spot")
And yepz! - Da runnin' water also creates a peaceful atmosphere by creatin' negative ions in da air, simulatin' da feel-good properties of a waterfall or da shower --- MM HMM! -- da negative ions (- charge) -- created when an an electron is bumped off da water molecules by da natural processes of sunlight, runnin' water...etc....-- makin' a negative charge -- which produces biochemical changes dat promote increased releases of da feel-good chemical serotonin - which reduces stress, gets rid of depression...n' makes us feel "SO GOOOOD! SOOO GOOD!" HAHAAA!!
OOO! - n' also certain things, such as addin' plants in a certain corner of a room.....such as a pointy-cornered section of a wall......balances negative energies ~
Even placin' a small lucky (3-stemmed) bamboo plant brings an element of positive "Feng Shui" energy into da home.....best located in da East-North Eastern part of a home for maximum effect......(ME TOO GOT'S A LUCKY BAMBOO PLANT IN MY SACRED SPOT! -- Me luuv mi lil' bamboo -- it's sooo cute! -)
~ Peace, Love, Joy ~
in this case - negative is good!
Oh this is great information Yannaki! ~ I appreciate all the details of the positive effects negative ions can create to our feelings of well being and positive energies ~ Just the opposite are positive ions which can make people feel irritable and depressed .. for example when we get the warm Santa Ana winds here in Southern California (the ones that spread our wild fires) these warm winds create positive ions which are not good for our well being ~
So thanks Yannaki for emphasizing the benefical effects of flowing water in our homes which give us negative ions...making us feel good ~ I love the tranquil and peaceful elements of feng shui ~
Oh and the 3-stemmed bamboo plant is a basis element of the art of Asian plant and flower arrangement ~ My mom studied this art and incorporated it into her flower arrangements which she did for our customers as part of our family business ~
So enjoy the art of feng shui everyone! ~
question
I have been thinking about replacing my feather duvet. I have had it a long time and wanted to get another one. But...now I have to ask the question... do all these ducks just offer up their beautiful fluffy down all on their own in a natural way????, or ... no, I don't even want to go there. I would appreciate your thoughts on this or perhaps a Feng Shui solution.
That's an interesting question Pauline!
I looked around the web a bit and found this article by Bev Marshall -
"Eider ducks are only found in the North Atlantic in Iceland. The mother duck plucks her own down to feather the nest to keep the eggs warm. The down is then harvested by hand after the next has been abandoned. This is very labor intensive as you can imagine. Any eider down comforter is considered heirloom quality since they are so rare.
Bev Marshall is a successful freelance writer, Aromatherapist and Feng Shui consultant offering guidance and suggestions for consumers buying a comforter, bedspread, baby bedding, duvet cover, bedding and more.."
http://www.downcomforters-online.com/goose-down-comforters--warm--cozy--...
So it seems that down duvet is very Feng Shui when we think of its concept - "Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy. It is the study of living in harmony and prosperity with nature. It is a form of geomancy, trying to understand the relationships between nature and ourselves so that we may live in harmony within our environment. It is based upon the simple thought that our lives are deeply affected by our physical and emotional environment."
Feng Shui has advice and solutions to offer, in order to let the "chi", the energy, flow smoothly around the house. Curtains and windows, fabrics, color, material, window arrangement, yes, all these may affect your homes chi ~
Natural
I am of the understanding that things natural are used in the art of Feng Shui. I would imagine that feathers are included in that. I used to sleep on a down feather bed topper and on down pillows. Since I have asthma it was bothering me so I had to stop using them. But oh so comfy!
Thanks for the info Coralina.
found some more info
Natural or with nature is the key to the art of Feng Shui as you say Lightdancer ~
Pauline ~ I found another article that tells more about how the feathers are harvested - to follow up on your thoughts ~
This is from the ehow.com website ...
"Just as all down is not createed equal, not all down is harvested equally. The birds being harvested and the methods used to collect down and feathers for comforter fill material can and do affect the overall performance of the comforter. Above, I mentioned Icelandic Eiderdown. This down is extremely rare and prohibitively expensive as it can only be hand-harvested from abandoned nests. Goose down, meanwhile, is readily available and is produced the world over.
Hungarian White Goose Down
The height of goose down luxury is a position occupied by Hungarian white goose down, which is derived from geese raised specifically for their feathers and down. Hungarian, or Magyar, geese have been raised in the Hungarian countryside for centuries. The colder climate of Hungary encourages the growth of strong and well-insulating down and feathers. Hungarian geese produce world-renowned, high quality down that boasts an exceptional 750+ fill power, long-lasting, soft and resilient down. Additionally, some Hungarian white goose down comforters are filled with large-cluster, hand-harvested down. Hand-harvesting of down causes no injury to the geese and preserves the down's inherent qualities from damage.
European and Canadian Goose Down
Running a very close second to Hungarian goose down, are the premium European and Canadian goose downs. European goose down represents down produced in European countries (other than Hungary), such as Poland and Turkey. European down is characterized by a high fill power, between 650 and 750, but lacks the historical centuries-long heritage of Hungarian goose down. Canadian geese, like their Hungarian cousins, are large birds that also can produce large-cluster, high-quality down. Like the Hungarian variety, Canadian goose down can attain a fill power of around 750. The Canadian goose down industry actually traces its roots back to 16th Century Moravia, (presently the Czech Republic)."
Good question Pauline!
goose down feather comforters
and what a great answer Coralina. Thank you for all the research. Sorry I didn't get back to your comment sooner but I was caught up for some time on the great link to the web page you mentioned. ehow.com
All I ever wanted to know but was afraid to ask. I always like to try to invent or sometimes re-invent something. Since you like water fountains.. I'll share the fact that I spent about 15 years trying to re-invent the rock. haha...but this site.. wow. It has me thinking again.
As for my question. I am relieved to know I can sleep in down feathers and that it is Feng Shui. After following your research I think I will consider it more as an investment too and buy a nice one that I know I will appreciate and keep a long time.
