~ films above: 1st one is da opening trailer for da movie. 2nd one is da famous scene of the infamous failed Pruit-Igoe housing project, that was located in Missouri - a prime example of a world gone out of balance - set to my fav philip Glass composition ~ (more on the Igoe project later's)
Koyaanisqatsi - "Life Out of Balance"

Here's an old film that formed a huge cult following back durin' da 80's --- and now one of my favs -- A powerful n' intense classic ~ with a single message that is so vital for THE WHOLE WORLD'S CIVILIZATION TO HEAR ~
"Koyaanisqatsi" - the first in a trilogy of "Qatsi" films (followed by Powaqqatsi & Naqoyqatsi) --- which uses only visuals n' sound ~ without the use of narration ~ to directly convey its internal message into the minds of viewers -- bypassing any logic and mental filters ~ To literally grab the viewer's undivided attention ~ By usin' fast-paced n' frenetic time-lapsed video scenes meshed into one whole sequence -- (makin' da viewer experience a sense of chaos n' confusion...Ayyyy!!!! Barf Bag!!) -- while the music (composed by legendary minimalist composer Philip Glass) -- is hauntingly grandesque n' beautiful in its own right -- reflectin' in tempo n' mood to da displays in da film ~ further enhancin' da audio-visual experience ~
The film's message is clear: - The World is Out of Balance! -- Out of Harmony -- Our modern-day civilization has gone off in an almost dizzyin' n' confused state where people have virtually lost their touch with true reality.....the things that really matter in life --- And out of touch with our inner being ~ Our Emotions ~ Our Values ~ Our Morals ~ This world we live in....has taken on a shape of chaos & confusion --- reflectin' of our subconscious minds -- People have forgotten literally....what it's like....to live in harmony ~
With so much wars, violence, bloodshed, needless loss of lives - hurt feelings - and more ~ WE HAVE TO FREAKIN' WAKE UP!! ~ no seriously....not just simple rhetoric talk....TAKE ACTION! --- How much more of this can we cope with....How much more abuse can humanity take? How much more corruption n' destruction can exist on our planet? - Our environment? - Is this the direction we have decided to go on? - Taking a nosedive over da cliff?
~ Or are we going to finally see.....the truth - that we must rethink our values....or lives....and see that our current paths, lead to more suffering - more hurt - it doesn't do any good for the whole of civilization ~ No matter HOW MUCH we continue to have self-denial on world issues n' justify our every action ~ Are we willing to acknowledge our faults? Our Wrongdoings?
~ And make a difference in this world???? ~
Koyaanisqatsi -- a hopi indian word that means....crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living....the message in the movie: "Humanity is living in such a way ~ "and we must learn to change our ways....for the better" ~
One thing i've learned: - Life is too sacred to waste - Everyone seeks harmony, happiness in their lives....even those that hurt inside - Instead of engaging in greed, selfishness, hatred. revenge..etc....Why not do the opposite? - Love n' care for others, forgive others, (even if they have hurted you), mind our actions n' words with the other person's best interests, doing what elevates us as a human civilization.....and raises others.....Let's put a stop to this torture shall we???? :)

1. Awesome ~
Without words these images of our world gone crazy, Koyaanisqatsi, are so very powerful Yannaki ! ~
Thank you for the awareness of how a significant part of our population lives within the city maze ~
There is a certain adrenalin from life in the business suit world and I have to admit that for a very brief time in my life, of a year or two, I found myself caught up in the city lifestyle ~ I suppose I was intrigued with the idea because it was so totally different from my life growing up and college environment ~
I took the Bart train to downtown San Francisco to my art studio job each day and got caught up in the excitement of the downtown business world ... However, I could feel intuitively that this lifestyle was not ME and only a short term experiment ~ It did teach me some interesting things about the business world and people .. but it wasn't long that I returned to my familiar environment filled with nature instead of concrete as my home ~ The meaning of the Indian word describes it so well - life out of balance .. it is not a natural way to live~
As for the film's images of the inner city poverty, Yannaki, how very sad that so many desperate souls find themselves in such heartless surroundings .. Truly no one deserves to live like an animal in a cage ...That is why I am always amazed by stories of those who have escaped from their poverty and hopeless surroundings .. to find their true destiny of experiencing life's true blessings and beauty ~
2. Just a fraction of what the movie presents
Wow! - what a response Coralinni ~ Thnx for sharin' ur insights n' own personal story relatin' to da movie ~
What u say says somethin' we should all take a page from -- Mankind cannot be without mother nature -- It's unfathomable! -- Our fast-paced lifestyle is a sad symptom of da industrialized world ~ Putting us under constant stress, with not much sleep ~ As if almost it's like a badge of honor --- (We must value our health) ~
OO! - But da clips only touch upon a fraction of what da movie presents - There's much more since it's broken into sections (chapters) ~ with more on da out-of-balanceness showcased ~
~ Peace, Love, Joy ~
