Phenomenon

Sevara's picture

I remember watching this movie years ago when it first came out, but it was just a moving this time around, perhaps even more so.

The main character, George Malley (John Travolta), sees a blinding light in the sky on his birthday and the next day begins to realize that something strange is happening to him. Suddenly he has the ability to learn anything - languages, science, botany. But the greatest lesson he learns is about love.

The movie is very well made and suitable for viewers of all ages. It's the kind of story that tugs on the hearts strings and makes you want to be a better human being. Highly recommended.

2. An inspiration to all humanity ~

~ A powerfuly evocative movie that touches our hearts - stirs the soul ~

WOWZ!!! - thnx Sevara for sharin' w/ us such a beautiful n' emotionally poweful movie ~ SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!

In some rare moments in my life - have I come across such films that radiate soo deeply within my inner being ~ a part of me that is so sacred...that I feel inside ~ movies that have moved me to tears...movies from my childhood (such as "E.T.", "Homeward Bound", "Milo & Otis"...and such more!!) --- They have become a part of who I am today -- This film.....joins among the many that have a reflection upon my heart....I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED SEEIN IT BEFORE!! :-

Expressin' da sacred ultimate truths of da universe, da mind and beyond --- this emotional story beings through da eyes of George Malley -- who experiences a sudden overwhemin' moment in his life....Dat single moment....which transforms him deep within.....And becomes tapped into the deep mysteries of da mind n' da cosmos ~ Experiencin' super-heightened awareness n' clarity of thought.....incredible intelligence beyond imagination n' da mental power of "Telekinesis" --- not to mention da gift of intuition n' graspin' knowledge beyond da limited senses of da body ~

This story shows a most important message - of love n' harmony among all - despite acquirin' these unimaginable powers.....He uses it for da good of humanity - To go beyond Self and to serve all - To Help Others ~

Yet - just like in today's times - how in da movie shows people....shallow-minded and still not able to grasp these things.....turnin' something beautiful (and an oppurtunity to become more better human beings) - into something totally da opposite --- There is much "instant gratifyin'" or sensationalism --- "Get RIGHT TO DA POINT - skip da jumbo jumbo" attitude....and tumoil n' much sufferin' comes out of it ~ In da movie...... there is a scene where Travolta's character....his surrounded by people fascinated'z about his skills.......And as he is tryin' to explain da subtle  truths of existence --- People instead HECKLE HIM --- just wantin' a display of  "telekinesis" and askin' silly questions ~ and end up tramplin' upon themselves n' knockin' him out.........EEEEEK!!!

And then - he receives unwanted attention by da press n' people beginnin' to fear him.....due to his "strangeness" -- Eventually da role of GOVERNMENT  comes into play....JUST for purposes of GAIN n' SELF-INTEREST (possibly also for "dark" pursuits such as war) ~ yet....he manages in da end....to express his love to people.....and finally departs from this world.....peacefully.....to become a part of da da Cosmos.....once again ~

AS HE QUOTES SO BEAUTIFULLY: "We are all inter-connected...made of the same thing.....ENERGY" ~

truly a beautiful emotional n' spiritual journey of da heart n' spirit -- it really makes you ponder deeply about our own existence n' place in da cosmos......We all are here.....for a special reason....a purpose: George Found His ~

3. A few memorable scenes ~

along w/ Coralinni's beautiful "Orchard" scene -- here are a few memorable ones dat have especially got my attention!

In this scene -- a skeptical psychiatrist (played by my fav Star Trek actor: Brent Spiner..who did da android "Data") - tests George Malley's super-incredible intellect...and explains how we are all "energy" ~

(in addition: da one part dat continues to amaze me - is how specific he got w/ da "age" test --- as it is true....due to time zone difference....as well as da subtle but still present time dilation due to Einstein's "Theory of Special Relativity" - dat our actual ages differ.....esp. in frames of referrence.....da 4th dimension of time....thingz we normally don't perceive in everyday events....)

Here's da "scene" - where da "fearful" public questions George's abilities as he attempts to explain da suble truths of mind and matter - towards da end...they heckle him! :O ~ (shakin' head in unbelief)

4. the human phenomenon

Indeed, a very touching and memorable story. I’ve just finish seeing it on TV again this evening, and beside some fine points both Coralina and Yannaki pointed out, one phrase stuck with me afterwards: "Everything is going to somewhere. Everything."
Yannaki, well pointed out: the narrow mind of the humans as they try to find a logical explanation to what was going on with George, as the good doctor says it so well (paraphrased): they were trying to convince themselves that it was some trick he was playing, just so they can sleep better at night, but he never asked for anything. When he tried to explain it, they all shut him off and treated him like circus a freak, or close to it.
It is a great experience every time I watch it, and each time, besides a few snuffles, I get to learn something new. :) I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Thank you!
