The beauty and breath of the ocean coast lines ~ A sacred trust ... for this is worth fighting for ~

An article from the Union Tribune June 18th ~

A federal moratorium on new oil drilling off most U.S.coastal waters has been in effect since 1981. Presidential candidate,John McCain on Tuesday proposed lifting that ban as part of his energy policy if elected president.

President Bush followed suit Wednesday in Washington, releasing a statement urging Congress to lift the ban to allow the United States to boost its domestic oil production.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's response: Get out. He said he was willing to hear new ideas to ease the energy crunch, but lifting the offshore drilling ban wasn't among them.

We're serious about that, and we're not going to change that,” he said.

Schwarzenegger made his remarks moments after delivering a keynote speech at the BIO International Convention at the San Diego Convention Center in which he touted California's place as a world leader in the biotech industry.

The governor used the biotech gathering of scientific minds and venture capitalists to insist that America needed to look for new answers to the long-standing problem of providing affordable energy, including finding “the will to push Detroit and say, 'You make better cars (that can meet) better standards.'

“It's not about going back; it's about going forward. I'm looking for the new deal,” he said.

He also chastised the federal government for failing to move on long-term solutions to the energy problem.

“Washington did not make a plan 10 years ago to make us energy-independent,” he said. “Now, we need to make a plan.

update

I can see by our comments how passionate we are about stopping the thought of lifting the ban on off shore oil drilling ~

One hopeful sign and update is the most recent statement Presidential candidate John McCain made about lifting the ban ...after feedback of how unpopular this would set with the public ....now he has apparently softened his statement by saying if elected President he would leave it to each state to make the final decisions ~ Only time will tell what will truly become of the ban and what the future holds ~ Prayers for preserving the beauty of Mother Nature ~

Our precious shores ~

BRAVO CORALINNI! - awesome (disturbin' too's!!)  article u share  --- SAY "NO" TO OFFSHORE OIL DRILLIN'!!!! :o

DANG RIGHT! - this iz a serious topic dat properly needz to be addressed immediately - Our current Bush admin. in response to our deep oil crisis n' ever-increasing prices -- is to essentially lift da ban imposed on offshore drilling (since da 80's) --- allowing oil contractors to get da "OK" to build more drillin' derricks off our coast! --- WHAT DA HECK!!!!!

YEPZ!! -- dat would mean dat we would begin to see more and more hideous-lookin' oil platforms off our coasts --- effectively ruinin' da natural vistas n' beauty of certain coastlines n' beaches --- and they would begin poppin' up out of nowhere -- like a spreading cancer across da coasts ~

Even scarier --- in da news,  current presidential candidate Sen. McCain (a.k.a. - Tickin' Time Bomb) -- proposes to support offshore drillin' if he were elected ---- in his views.....would help us solve our energy crisis and not make us depend sooo much on forein oil supplies, stating, "When people are hurting, and struggling to afford gasoline, food, and other necessities, common sense requires that we draw upon America's own vast reserves of oil and natural gas'' --- THAT'S WHAT HE THINKS!! --- Along w/ Bush, Sen. McCain strongly defends his claims dat we need to star drillin' more on our own soil....and off our coasts --- They say it will help us in da long-run......While rival candidate, Obama --- Opposes such a plan, sayin' `The American people don't need psychological relief or meaningless gimmicks to get politicians through the next election cycle, they need real relief.'' -- CERTAINLY's!!!

REALITY CHECK: DRILLIN' FOR MORE OIL WILL NOT SOLVE OUR CURRENT PROBLEM!! ---- We live in a new age with whole new responsibilities to tend to ---- For nearly a century, since the Industrial Revolution......We have so shamelessly exploited our dependency on fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal...etc...) --- since its discovery......thinkin' dat it was da greatest thing since whole grain cereal! -- All of a sudden.....people begin relyin' on petrols for heating.....our energy needs......and with dat our increasin' need for transportation as we started to travel farther from our homes ---- In da last 50 years.....automobile sales have skyrocketed -- As our consumption of fossil fuels increased.....WE WANTED MORE AND MORE! -- and STILL MORE!!! --- Effectively.....Our current society as a whole.....is "ADDICTED TO OIL" --- it is so ingrained and programmed into our minds --- We probably couldn't get along, let alone live, without it! ---- Just like other addictions -- w/ their withdrawal symptoms ----- In fact, our current energy crisis is kind of like dat....We are beginning to suffer da withdrawal symptoms for da decreasing lack of resources we have --

Eventually ---- When our fuel supplies have run out --- our environment in chaos.......People will revert to their old "Dog-Eat-Dog" mentality --- Wars will be fought over oil n' supplies.....becoming more desperate with each passing hour ~ I can't aimagine a world gone so awry ~ I just can't!

But dat is what we face if we DO NOT stop where we are and take on a whole new different path ----- Our extreme dependency on oil has become sooo profane ------ MORE OF IT IS NOT DA ANSWER!! -- It will only be a short-term solution......nothing more, nothing less ~

What we need to accomplish -- together -- Is to essentially change our old ways of thinking....our outdated thought patterns of da past --- And more forward with a new set of thought patterns.........As super-environmentalist Al Gore stated in his award-winning documentary "An Inconvient Truth" --- OLD WAYS + NEW TECHNOLOGIES = Dramatically altered consequences ===== In other words.......Our civilization hasn't matured socially enough to properly handle our new technologies and our whole new set of global issues.........Our civilization is like a rebellious teenager -- thinking it is "INVINCIBLE" - "WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE" ---- Unfortunately......we have thought wrong......As our ignorance and stupid decisions has cost us a whole lot......In da example of oil and fossil fuels......THAT IS OLD TECHNOLOGY.....Past, Obsolete, Ineffective --- We are dealing with new global issues......Which demands to be handle in a whole new way --- yet our ways of thinking are "OLD" --- We still depend on our precious oil......WE MUST HAVE IT! -

On top of it ---- Our own planet is beginning to bust at da seams ---- Our incredible rate of "over population" leads to wasteful "over-consumption".......and our own natural resources CANNOT keep w/ da demand of da people!! --- just like a poor single waiter tryin' to serve customers at dinner time -- IT'S TOO MUCH!!! - and will fall apart somewhere......It took hundreds of thousands of years for human civilization to get where we are now.....and all within a lifetime --- Our population......"up to 6 billion from just 200 million" ---- and within 50 years......our atmosphere is more polluted than it ever was durin'  da prehistoric times.........DO WE SEE A PROBLEM HERE??????????

MOST CERTAINLY!! ---- We cannot continue this old way anymore.......WE MUST SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS IN A NEW LIGHT!! --- MORE OIL IS NOT DA ANSWER! -- OFFSHORE DRILLING WILL NOT SOLVE OUR CRISIS!!! -- it will only buy us some time before something REAL DISASTEROUS HAPPENS!! (worst-case scenario: da theoretical "MALTHUSIAN CATASTROPHE" -- total collapse of our ecosystem and civilzation)   ----- We must push forward......find effective alternative energy sources (WIND, GEOTHERMAL, SOLAR, BIOFUELS) --- not revert to old ways!! (da proposal of "CLEAN COAL" --- PFFT! IT'S NOT "CLEAN" AT ALL! -- COAL IS STILL COAL!!)  ---- it's soo hard to let old habits die hmmm????

SAY "NO" TO OFFSHORE DRILLING!! --- or else.........

Ecological Effects of Offshore Drilling ~

OOOO!! - me forget's to add!! --- :O :O

In addition to what i wrote --- Here are a few of da ecologial effects offshore drillin' has on our oceans and our environment ---

- One potential hazard is da "leaching" of heavy metals into bouyancy tanks and also into da oceans......which could compromise da structural integrity of da oil platforms and its collapse.....plus these heavy metals are poisonous as well....any chnace of them going into da ocean can lead to hazardous impacts on marine life and da conditions of da oceans ~ (ARG!)

- Also......over da course of an oil platform's lifetime......it will release about 90,000 tons of "produced water" (essentially polluted water....mixed along w/ oil or gas and other chemicals) into da oceans......along w/ da "heavy metals" mentioned above ---- Imagine that!!! ---- Times dat number by da amount of oil platforms......YOU GET AN OBSCENE RESULT!!)

- Another risk....is da potential for explosions to occur.....which would lead to oil spills dat would prove to be lethal to da surrounding ecology -- esp. a greater risk since da likelihood of underwater oil & gas at extreme pressures to escape ---- NOT GOOD'Z AT ALL!!!  (for example....in 1988, an oil platform called da "Occidental Petroleum Piper Alpha" exploded from a gas leak in da North Sea.....leadin' to da loss of 167 lives ~

- And of course......pure aesthetics - How would one feel.....if they saw a few unsightly oil derricks on their local beach??? -- Sure wouldn't look good's at all!! -- They ruin da natural beauty of such locations.....until it all just looks industrial-like ~

So not only will lifitin' da ban on these drillers would bring more and more ugly platforms to our coasts (da ones found in da Gulf of Mexico were there before da ban) --- but would lead to more environmental risks to our ecology --- We need'z to really find n' develop much more efficient ways of solvin' our energy problems before it's too late! -- And more OIL is NOT da Answer!! --

praying for light out of the darkness

Sometimes Yannaki I feel my soul crying out as if to say - Wake up people before it's too late! ...

Stop the insanity and people need to be careful and wise WHO we support or vote into the White House!

Can you imagine the Yogananda from the here-after weeping if he saw an oil derrick off his sacred ocean front ashram ...I have witnessed too many acts of insanity from our leaders to know that anything is possible ...

There are other solutions to our energy crisis and we need clear thinking, wise men and women to come forward more than ever ~ People with compassion and an understanding of the great gift of nature that we have been blessed with from our divine creator ~ Who will protect and care for these great gifts of the beauty of nature - not only for us but for generations to come ~

Peace and blessings and a prayer for light out of the darkness ~
