BP accused of "Greenwashing" ~

DAT RIGHT!! -- we've been hearing a lot about BP, also known as British Petroleum, in the news lately due to the ongoing oil spill in da Gulf (which really suxx!) -- which they are held responsible for and attemping to fix and clean this disasterous ecological mess....which pathetic and unpromising results ~ all the while thousands of gallons of crude oil continues to blast out from under da waters, further pollutin' da Gulf and threatening the precious ecosystems (NOOOO!!) - messin' up tourism in Florida (tarballs have been spotted along da coast's sandy white beaches....a hideous sight indeed!) ~ and futhermore, threatening to ride up the East coast and beyond ~

WHAT DA HECK IS BP DOING!? - are they actually cleanin up da mess or just stalling? - Do they even really care??? ~ There is much protesting going on....blaming BP for the latest disaster ~

Poultry workers opened the doors of a chicken truck at a Toronto slaughterhouse in December, 2008, to find that nearly 1,500 birds had frozen to death in sub-zero temperatures during their final journey from the farm.

At about the same time, 16 neglected horses – animals so emaciated they had not developed winter coats – were sent to a meat factory in Lacombe, Alta., in an unheated truck as the thermometer dipped to minus 12 C. Government inspectors who witnessed their arrival took note of the incident but let the transport company off with a simple warning.

Those and other anecdotes are included in a report by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) to be released later this week that looks at the conditions in which animals intended for Canadian dinner plates are transported – often for the last time.

JERUSALEM — British singer-songwriter Elvis Costello is canceling two summer concerts in Israel because of its treatment of the Palestinians, disappointing fans in a country enjoying an upswing in visits by renowned artists.

In an announcement on his Web site explaining his decision, Costello spoke of "intimidation, humiliation or much worse" inflicted by Israel on the Palestinians and said sometimes "merely having your name added to a concert schedule may be interpreted as a political act."

Costello told The Jerusalem Post earlier this month he was against boycotts, saying it would be like avoiding the U.S. or England because he disagreed with the policies of their governments.

But in Thursday's edition of the paper, he explained his change of heart.

"The issues just became too complex and I woke up one day and realized I couldn't go on with the shows," Costello was quoted as saying.

The film director who created an idyllic unspoiled world in the movie Avatar will meet with deep-ocean experts Tuesday in Washington to pitch ideas about how to stop the ugly oil spill now spreading in the Gulf of Mexico.

James Cameron is expected to attend the meeting with fellow Canadian Phil Nuytten, an underwater innovator and the head of North Vancouver-based Nuytco Research.

It's not known what the two swashbuckling Canadians – who first met when Mr. Nuytten's company, Nuytco Research, built the submersibles used in Mr. Cameron's 1989 underwater thriller The Abyss – will bring to the discussion.

But as the environmental disaster in the Gulf continues to unfold, it seems the idea behind the session is to put every possible solution – including use of manned submersibles – on the table.
