EPA - States must be allowed to reduce global warming pollution from vehicles

Published in

This is a follow up post from Divine Earth's earlier blog entitled "How the White House Worked to Scuttle California's Climate Law." I am offering a link to the Union of Concerned Scientists for you to actively participate in messaging the EPA Administrator - Stephen Johnson.

Although I am a member, it is not necessary for you to join. You can actively participate as a non-member. The choice is yours. I do feel this is very important.

In brief, twelve states, representing a third of the US auto market, have adopted clean car standards to reduce global warming pollution from vehicles - and even more are considering doing so. Yet, the US EPA has, for years, delayed a decision on the waiver states need to implement these crucial standards.

Despite overwhelming public support for the waiver, in the next few weeks, the EPA may attempt to quietly introduce conditions that would undermine states' ability to implement their clean car standards. It's imperative that EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson be reminded that the US public is awaiting a decision and that he has the responsibility to unconditionally approve the clean car standards waiver.

I will be posting details of another directive which relates to this issue as well entitled "Stop the White House Power Grab" so all the action we can generate as well as alerting our friends to get involved as well.

Once you go to the website, in the upper left hand corner, click on Take Action, you will be linked to a page with a box on the right side. If you wish, click on the Sign up with the Union of Concerned Scientists. Once you have completed your information, you may be linked to action alerts ... however, if not, simply go to the home page, again click on Take Action, scroll down to the bottom of the page Take Action Now will list alerts. The first action alert (with the green car) refers to this important issue. UCS will have already prepared a letter and an option for you to add your own comments ... as well as your email information completed ... simply send the message and you are done.
