~ "It's a bad day to be human" ~

Here's is a lil' something dat sparked my interest recently -- dat sparks suspense, curiosity and deep contemplation -- and wanted's to share's!! -

Since me luuv sci-fi! (Geekies luuv fiction too'z!!) -- i sometimes watch da Sci-Fi channel and they have some real kool n' interestin' sci-fi shows n' movies (like Star Trek, Da classic Twlight Zone, Babylon 5 and more!) -- one nite i was watchin' da sci-fi channel and came across somethin' dat caught my attention ---- They were featurin' da hyped-up new 2-part mini-series film -- "The Andromeda Strain" ~  which was a modernized up-to-date version of da 1971 original film ---- based on da classic sci-fi novel by da great writer "Michael Crichton" (who also wrote da novel "Jurrasic Park" - made famous by da 1993 movie -- ME MIGHT SHARE LATERS!!) ~

So naturally's -- i wanted to check's it out n' see how da new modernized version measured up to da original  ~ and for me......it was both intriguin', suspenseful, and frightening all at once!! -

After have read da novel (cover-to-cover -- me wuuuv readin!) - and after have seen da original film.......I wanted to see how da new modernized version turned out --- and boy did it catch my attention! --- right from da start.....i knew it was gonna be somethin' interestin' and deep......Da miniseries follows da main story of da novel......with modern twists dat reflect today's global dilemmas and situations --- which i feel is quite important to point out (more on it later's!).........

Da Plot: (from my perspective)

Da mini-movie focuses on a strange alien extra-terrestrial microorganism strain dubbed "da andromeda strain" ---- which turns out to be a super-deadly virus from outer space.....which kills its victims by severe coagulation of da bloodstream (clotting) - in under 10 seconds -- In da miniseries......it starts out w/ a U.S. government satellite crashin' into da Utah desert -- Curious.....a small town nearby da site - explores da site, finds da satellite.....and bring it back --- unknowing of da fatal virus inside it --- They open it ---- and all hell breaks loose!! (there are some pretty graphic sequences dat i wont share on Divine Earth - since they're quite disturbin'!) --- but basically a whole epidemic breaks out....as people left and right collapse all of a sudden and go completely insane......commiting suicide and going into psychotic panic attacks --- and are killed in 10 seconds ~

Only 2 mysteriously survive --- one local drunk townsman....and a baby --(who both have acidic blood) --- they are brought to da secret underground "super-sealed" lab fortress known as "Wildfire" --- headed by lead bio-scientists --- They discover dat this deadly virus -- is not of this Earth.....Has no DNA or Amino Acids --- can only survive in near-neutral levels of pH (w/o gettin geeky's --- a measure of how acidic or basic a solution is) .......and feeds on high amounts of energy....so it cannot be destroyed by heat or nuclear energy.......which in da miniseries.....an exective order by da pres. (a parody of Pres. Bush - and his southern drawl) -- to nuke da site w/ a thermonuclear device - which ultimately failed when they were warned by "Wildfire" of da virus' nature......and try to abort da detonation --

Towards da end.....da virus becomes more deadly -- as it mutates to consume plastics --- it "eats" into da fighter jet carryin' da nuclear bomb and sets off da bomb -- allowin' itself to grow exponentially........As if da virus "had a mind of its own" -- and decided to mutate itself and detonate da bomb to allow its spread itself further.....threatenin' more communities!

Da virus --- also begins attackin' da "Wildfire" facility ---- as it mutates.....settin off da alarms and armin' da self-destruct sequence (a nuclear detonation) ---- which it knows exists ---- and wants to spread itself further.......it is a race against time....as da scientists fight to survive and find da cure to save da planet from this great bio-threat ----(in da movie......a type of underwater bacteria (Bacillus Infernus) found in near-thermal vents (which are highly acidic) -- is da cure and kills of da virus.....savin' da world from destruction ~

My thoughts:

Da reception of da miniseries - was pretty mediocre - not to my suprise - since da miniseries featured a lot of Hollywood glitz to readily entertain w/o engaging da mind.......dat da majority of da crowd missed da more deeper, finer points of da movie --- if one paid more attention to da whole plot (and it helped if one read da novel already) ---- It touches upon threats dat are in today's world......such as Bio-terror, potential widespread epidemics of deadly diseases......and of course - da conspiracies -- and da sick and twisted corruption and depravity in today's corporations and in world governments.......and da higher calling - of our human civilization - to wake up and make a difference to alter da course of history for da better -

it all sums up towards da end of da movie --- where one finds out da conspiracy behind it all.........how da satellite dat crashed......was a from a super-secret covert U.S. government project called "Project Scoop" --- sent to collect this deadly organism.....discovered when a "wormhole" opened up da fabric of space-time and from nowhere......came this strange alien virus........Da Govt - in secret, probably was trying to collect it and was to be used for biological weaponry in da event of war against da "enemy countries" (sounds familiar???????)  ---- when it is discovered.....officials try to cover it up ~ blackmailin' one of da scientists from da inside to keep a sample for da govt. ~ it backfired......and da co-conspirators silenced those involved w/ da project - to not reveal da dark secrets of da project to da public -

Also......it brings da question of our future survival to our human civilization ---- Will We Make a Difference??? ---- In da end......There is a powerful ending scene....where da virus is locked up in a space station --- w/ da same mysterious symbol (two triangles interlocked) seen in "Wildfire" (when they decoded da virus) - and da access code "739528" -- da camera zooms out to reveal da whole Earth and da universe................Here - it is obvious what it's about - da virus was sent from da future human civilization.....w/ a message (carryin' da "code" and da "Bacillus Infernus" reference) ---- through da wormhole.....to warn itself of da potential threat and how to save da planet (this is one of da potential problems in da relativistic-quantum theories of Time-Travel -- an endless "Time-Loop") - repeatin' da same event over an over again...........

And dat threat -- is da highly controversial project, proposed by da President......of mining out da thermal vents for profit and da economy -- which would destroy da "Bacillus Infernus" colonies forever - and never finding da cure - This parallels to how our continuing damage to our ecology.......esp. da rainforests.......can destroy any hopes of finding cures or new medicines --- while a potentially spreadin' pandemic (with no known cure) plagues da planet.............A REAL THREAT IN TODAY'S WORLD!!!!

So for me......this mini-series provoke deeep thoughts that we all must ask ourselves and look into --- kuz it so frighteningly relates to our "Now" times ----- Will we make conscious decisions to make a difference???? Or will we let  our own destruction dictate our fate????? ---- "DA CHOICE IS OURS"
